Join us on a unique one-day Cruise retracing the old steamer and sailing routes from Dargaville through the mighty Kaipara Harbour to Pouto Point before returning to Dargaville by coach.

Departing from Dargaville on board M.V. Kewpie Too we cruise through the Northern Wairoa River past the many river settlements where early settlers had grand dreams and plans for major communities, however today could be described as ghost towns. It’s then into the Kaipara Harbour where we cruise through the sheltered inland waterways beside the Pouto Peninsula where we see many remote barren beaches accessible only by boat with their white sands back dropped with the green of newly planted pine forests. Before we disembark at Pouto Point we view the Kaipara Heads where you can see the magnificence of the two headlands with their extensive sand dunes and the Tasman Sea beyond. We also sight the large sand island at Tapora where today thousands of tons of white sand is mined for the Auckland construction market. We then disembark at the early marine settlement at Pouto Point where once Harbour Masters, Customs Officers and Port Officials were based in the hey day of the shipping industry on the Kaipara. From Pouto Point we board our coach for the return journey along the Pouto Peninsula, enjoying the scenery along the way before arriving back at your vehicle in Dargaville.
